The Cabinet Meeting
February 25, 2000

 

On the morning of February 25, 2000 at 8:30 the Council of Ministers convened a plenary cabinet meeting, presided over by Samdech Hun Sen Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia in order review and pass:

  1. Draft subdecree concerning the organization and functioning of the Ministry of Justice.
  2. Draft subdecree concerning the creation of six national committees for ASEAN Functional Cooperation.

After the active discussion and view exchanges, the cabinet achieved the results as follows:

Draft subdecree concerning the organization and functioning of the Ministry of Justice

The cabinet approved the draft subdecree which states that the Ministry of Justice is given a mission by the Royal Government of Cambodia to lead the competence and control justice field in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The roles and tasks of the Ministry are: to participate in protecting the independence of judges in performing their tasks to ensure justice for each individual before the laws, educate people to be aware of the laws and disseminate the laws, ensure the implementation of the court's and prosecutors' rulings, follow up the implementation of verdicts, especially inspect the and detention cells prisons in conformity to the laws, carry out the process of leniency determined by laws, and carry out other tasks set by the Royal Government.

Draft subdecree concerning the creation of six national committees for ASEAN Functional Cooperation

The Cabinet approved the draft subdecree on the creation of six national committees for ASEAN Functional Cooperation, aimed at taking maximum advantages of ESEAN countries and dialogue partners in the functional cooperation.

The six national committees are as follows:

  1. National Committee on Civil Service.
  2. National Committee on Culture and Information.
  3. National Committee on Environment.
  4. National Committee for Combating Drugs.
  5. National Committee on Social Development.
  6. National Committee on Science and Technologies.

The Cabinet meeting ended at 10:30p.m.
