Information Release

In the morning of July 31, 2002 at Le Royal Hotel, a Signing Ceremony on Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Honorably chaired by H.E SOK AN, Senior Minister in Charge of the Council of Ministers, for two Demonstrative Research Projects, the first, on Combined Power Generation System between Photovoltaic and Micro Hydro, under the financial budget 100% funded by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization of Japan (Hereinafter referred to as "NEDO"),

The Co-operation and Signing Ceremony are effected by H.E SUY SEM, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy of Cambodia and H.E TSUTOMU MAKINO, Chairman of NEDO of the Royal Government of Japan.

The two projects will be located on different sites:

(1)- The first Project, of Combined Power Generation System between Photovoltaic and Biogas, with a total capacity of 110 KW, is located at the MONG RETHTHY’s Group of palm oil plantation at Prey Nup district, of the Municipality of Sihanoukvill.

(2)- The second project, of Dispersed Power Generation System, associates Photovoltaic and micro hydro, with a total capacity of 120 KW, and is located at Teuk Chha, of Prey Chhor district, in the province of Kompong Cham. The project covers the power generation plant, the transmission, distribution, and connection lines directly into the household users.

According to the planning, after the Signing Ceremony, the Japanese Team will make further detailed studies and designs up to the late of 2002, the construction will begin on early 2003, and the plants will be in operation on early of 2004

Note: Yesterday evening the NEDO delegation presented is courtesy visit to the Prime Minister Samdech HUN SEN, at his residence near the Monument of Independence, in Phnom Penh. The delegation was received in a warmly and friendly atmosphere. Samdech HUN SEN, a supporter of Renewable Energy, encourages the development of this new source of energy. He deeply thanks NEDO for its kind and continuous donations, which contribute for the development of Cambodia.
