On the Cabinet Meeting of the Royal Government of Cambodia

On 08 October, 2004 at 08:30 am, the Cabinet Meeting of the Royal Government of Cambodia was held at the Office of the Council of Ministers and presided over by H.E SAR KHENG, acting Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia to consider:


1. The Request for Approval by the Government on the Draft National Report on Women and Child Trafficking due to be sent to the United Nations.

2. The draft Sub-decree on the Establishment of Authority for Mekong Dolphin Conservation and Tourism Development ranging from Kampi Zone in Kratie Province to Khmer-Lao Border in Steung Treng Province.

In this session, the Government Cabinet Meeting adopted the proposed draft National Report on Women and Child trafficking due to be sent to the United Nations Secretary-General so as to submit to the 59th upcoming session of the United Nations General-Assembly. This report consists of five important parts as-follows:

First: On the background of the situation and the reasons that create the trafficking of women and children in Cambodia.

Second: On the strategy and measures taken to eliminate women and children trafficking in Cambodia.

Third: On the shortages and difficulties in the implementation of measures taken to combat the women and child trafficking in Cambodia.

Fourth: On the necessary and urgent measures.

Fifth: On the conclusion which illustrates the attention paid by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the International Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations to prevent the act of trafficking as well as the firm commitment of the Royal Government in its continued efforts to combat this trafficking.

As for the draft Sub-decree on the Establishment of Authority for Mekong Dolphin Conservation and Tourism Development ranging from Kampi Zone in Kratie Province to Khmer-Laos Border in Steung Treng Province, the Government Cabinet Meeting decided to leave it aside and trusted the National Authority of Tourism to be in charge of Mekong Dolphin Conservation and Tourism Development in addition to its mandate
.
The Government Cabinet Meeting closed its session at 12: 30 am
