Samdech, Royal Highness, Excellencies, Lok Chumteav, Neak Oknha, Ladies and Gentlemen, Government Officials, Businessmen, Head of Diplomatic Missions, Representatives of International Organizations, Donors and all Compatriots, A few months from now, we will be entering the new Millennium on 1st January 2000. But, for the Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent the entering of new Millennium will be on 8 May 1999, the International Red Cross Red Crescent Day and also the date of birth of Henry Dunant, founder of the Movement. The Millennium events will take place under one unique slogan " Power of Humanity ". In the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Red Cross National Society, under the Honorary Presidency of Her Majesty Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, will launch the event of the Millennium of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement on 8 May 1999 in front of Angkor Wat under the universal theme " Dance the World " by organizing a traditional dance event together with activities to expand membership by recruiting new members to massively support the movement. In Cambodia, the Red Cross movement will dance, and throughout the world, Red Cross and Red Crescent will dance. We all will dance to illustrate the movement and because dance is our unique global language showing all kinds of feelings, a language to express hope in the future, a hope of living in the world of harmony, world free from confrontation, wars; and we dance to unite our action to create a world of understanding, peace and development. Another 3 global events of the Millennium Year of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movements : People on War , in August, to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Geneva Convention - a convention which has provided legal base to our Movement and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and protection to every person at the time of armed conflict. This event will remind every person the importance of this convention. CRC will launch painting contest as well as a contest on the knowledge of IHL. November – the month when the 27th International Conference of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent will be held in Geneva. To congratulate this conference which take place at the time we are entering the new Millennium, CRC will organize a Charity Bazaar of special characteristic in Phnom Penh. On 8 May 2000, CRC will celebrate the event marking the completion of entering new Millennium by organizing a "Dare to Dream " event, during which kites and balloons will be released into the sky. Samdech, Royal Highness, Excellencies, Lok Chumteav, Neak Okhna, Ladies and Gentlemen, Government Officials, Businessmen, Head of Diplomatic Missions, Representatives of International Organizations, Donors and all Compatriots, This is the unique opportunity for the Cambodian Red Cross to promote its values and roles in the international arena, which will facilitate the strengthening of partnership and will draw attention of the donors, other national societies. It is the unique opportunity that CRC has to develop itself to expand membership and to raise fund to assist most vulnerable people, victims of landmines, war and natural disasters in the country. Therefore, CRC would like to extends warm invitation to Samdech, Royal Highness, Excellencies, Lok Chumteav, Neak Oknha, Ladies and Gentlemen, Government Officials, Businessmen, Head of Diplomatic Missions, Representatives of International Organization, Donors and all Compatriots to participate in various events of humanitarian actions of our society.The Cambodian Red has been seeking your moral, cash and kind supports.
