| On the new building: |
"I am very happy with the new school because
it is a concrete building and very nice. Now, the students want
to come to school because this new school building is easy to
study in and the kids are not disturbed by other classes (the
old school had very poor walls with gaping holes, making it
impossible for students not to bother other classes)."
|
| On his past: |
"I have been a teacher since October 1, 1979.
During the Pol Pot regime (the genocidal rule of Khmer Rouge,
1975-1979), I was a nurse in the capital city of Kampong Thom
Province. I became a teacher because the villagers wanted me to
teach their children.
|
| On difficulties of his job: |
"With my job as a teacher and director, I
have a problem because my salary is so small (Cambodian teachers
make $20-25 per month). But, I will never leave this job because
I love this work."
|
| On teaching school subjects: |
"I like to teach all subjects because I want
my students to learn everything. I know that the students like
to learn social sciences because this subject provides a lot of
information that the children want to lean mathematics because
it is difficult for them to understand."
|
| On the future of his students: |
"I want my students to gain knowledge and to
become teachers, doctors, and technicians, because I want them
to develop the country."
|
| On the future of Cambodia: |
"With the next generation of Cambodians
gaining knowledge, I hope that we can develop the country."
|
| Message to the donor: |
"On behalf of the all of the villagers here,
I would like to thank Mr. Morton Meyerson very much for the new
school. We would like to meet the Mr. Meyerson sometime if it is
possible." |
