Neang Ham is an 11-year-old second grade student at the Bor Tangsuor Nippon Foundation School. He was ranked fifth among his 35 classmates and has one older sister studying at the same school. His parents are rice and vegetable farmers.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building:	“I like the new school building because it's very nice and easy to learn. I never saw the old school building because I have just switched from another school in Pailin town.
On school subjects:	I like learning Khmer and mathematics because they can teach me how to read and how to calculate. I don't like learning social science because it's a bit difficult to understand and sometime I forget the explanation.
On his hobbies:	In my free time I like to help my parents to find jewels. When I meet my friends I like to play football and run.
On his history:	“I used to live in the Phnom Keav camp in Pailin during fighting and I just came back to live here.” [Fighting between the government and remnants of the Khmer Rouge in Pailin lasted until 1997. Many locals were displaced and fled to refugee camps across the Thai border or in safer areas within the country. This particular camp was administred by the Khmer Rouge as a safe place for people within their jurisdiction during the fighting.]
On his future:	“I want to be a doctor in the future because I could cure malaria victims here.”
