The Cambodia Rural School Project
|

(September, 2001)
Mr. Chea Kim Heng is the director of the World Mate School No. One. He has been a director since 1987 and was a teacher for five years before that. He is married with three children who go to another school, as he lives a few villages away from this school.
| On the new building: |
“I
like the new school building and I am overjoyed because I have put in
many requests for funds from the government for a new building but they
were never approved. Now we
have this wonderful building provided by Mr. Toshu Fukami, and I am very
happy that he had the good thought to help the children of this village. “The new building is much nicer than the old one and the students like it, too. The old building was made of wood and there weren’t enough seats, so it was too crowded for the students to sit down.”
|
| On school subjects: | “My students mostly
like Khmer and mathematics. They
like Khmer because it is their native language and mathematics because
it is important for them to understand how to calculate.
They can also use mathematics if they make a business in the
future.”
|
| On keeping students interested in school: | “I try to give my
students good advice and to help them study the lessons.
I also try to use Khmer legends as examples because they like
it.”
|
| Message for Mr. Fukami: | “I would like to thank Mr. Toshu Fukami very much for his willingness to help Cambodian children and providing this new concrete school building for them.” |
