Mr. An Cheun, the school director
(Mar, 2001)
Mr.
An Cheun is the school director of The Fumiko Oshima School.
He is 55 years old.

Their Own Words. . .

the new building |
“I like
the new school building because it has strong windows and
doors which means that we can keep things inside the
classrooms safely. The
classrooms are clean and not dusty, the windows allow air to
blow in the classrooms, the tables are easy to sit at, and all
the kids can see the blackboard easily.
Also, the noise in one classroom does not travel to
other classrooms, so that makes it easy for teachers to teach.
This is great compared to the old building, which was
very dirty, dusty, and noisy.
The classrooms were always dark, the roof leaked when
it was raining because it had holes, and termites had nested
in the beams.”

teaching |
“I have
been the school director for two years, and I have been a
teacher since 1984. I
have been working with this school for 18 years!
I became a teacher because I think it is important for
our kids to learn.”
|
| on
the difficulties of his job |
“The
people who live in this village are poor and are always moving
to other provinces to find jobs, so their kids move with
them.”
|
| on
the joys of his job |
"The
best things about this school are the teachers and that our
community works together to help the school.
Students always follow the school instructions and so
this school is the best school in the area.”
|
| on
school subjects |
“I
think that most of the students at this school like to learn
mathematics and English because if they know these, they can
find jobs easily. I
also like to teach mathematics because I want my students to
know how to calculate.”
|
| on
the future of his students |
“I
think that my students will use their knowledge gained from
this school to find good jobs in the future because they study
hard. I think
Cambodia will not return to war because kids are trying to
learn hard, and they will not fight eachother in the future.
Cambodia is developing everyday, everywhere.”
