The Nicholas and Elaine Negroponte School (Feb. 2000)
Me Sa Reun is a third grade student at The Nicholas and Elaine Negroponte School.
She is 12 years old. Me Sa Reun has five brothers and sisters, four of whom also attend this school.
Her parents are farmers. Like many young Cambodian children, Me Sa Reun is very shy and speaks in short phrases.
"I like my school because it is beautiful. The old school was not beautiful."
| on her favorite subject: | "Khmer because it is easy." |
| on her least favorite subject: | "Mathematics because it is difficult." |
| on her hobbies: | "I like to play 'Lok antak' with my friends." ('Lot antak' is a jumping game all Cambodian children like to play. It is similar to a 'high jump,' where children try to jump over 'rope' made of rubberbands. The making of the rubberband ropes is a tedious and intricate process, which many children devote a lot of time to). |
| on what she wants to be when she grows up: | "I want to be a teacher because I want to help children." |
| message to Elaine and Nicholas Negroponte: | "I am really happy with the new school." |
