Ngath Sreymom is a 15 year old in the 5th grade at the
Elizabeth Rinehart Ohrstrom School, #268, Speanmeanchey commune, Senmonorom
district, Mondulkiri.
Sreymom is part Khmer and part Phnong ethnic minority.
She has three sisters and four brothers. Sreymom is the fourth child.
Her father died in 2004. She lives with her mother, brothers and sisters.
This is a big family and they do not get enough income for their living
expenses. Her mother, sisters and brothers work in the village. They
do not have land for farming. They are hired by other families to cut
grass, clean farms, grow trees, do construction work, etc. Being in
such a situation, Sreymom has been unable to concentrate on her studies.
She was often absent from her class. She doesn’t have enough school
material for her needs at school. Her grade level does not correspond
to her age but she likes to study.
Once she and her
family understood GBA’s objectives she was willing to go back
to her class with the support from her family.
