Profile:
Phach Phay is 13 years old and a third grade student at the 2006-2007
semester of The Sre Thom Nippon Foundation primary school in Sre Thom
village, Ruong Roeung commune, Roveang district, Preah Vihear province.
Current
situation: Her family just moved from other commune two years
ago. They are farmers, besides of faming they would go to the forest
to find torchwood to make torch and they have to stay over there 2-3
days up. The income from that small baseness is about $12 a month but
not very often. They have one hectare of plantation (full up by small
forest); it’s very far from house around 10 kilometers but they
did not develop on their land yet. Moreover, they always take Phay along
with them because they afraid to keep her alone. She is the unique child
in the family. Some seasons, they have to work for someone hired, earning
$1 a day. The reason for her frequently school absence is due to helping
her parent to work for someone hired such as; transplant rice seeding,
soy bean harvest rive. Furthermore, her parent always take her with
when they go to plantation etc,. Her family is loan from ACELIDA banking
$250 that is why they have to work hard for interest.
Problem
she faces: They are living in the poorest condition. Her parents
frequently stay over night or more in the plantation.
Suggestion:
Her parents agreed to allow their daughter to attend school regularly
and will let her stay with grandmother who is living nearby her house.
Support:
We pay her parent $10 a month ($120 a year).
