Profile:
Sien Layhorn is 11 years old and a fourth grade student at the 2006-2007
semester of The Sre Thom Nippon Foundation primary school in Sre Thom
village, Ruong Roeung commune, Roveang district, Preah Vihear province.
Current
situation: She is a smart and hard study student; she always
gets the highest grade among 32 students in the class. Her parents are
farmer, besides of faming her family feeding some chickens and oxen,
work when someone hired for a living. She has two sisters and two brothers.
Her eldest sister is married and live separated house. However, this
spouse could not support the family. Her second brother stopped from
school since grade two and he is a farmer. Her third sister is study
in grade seventh but she has also used to dropped class sometime to
work at field when someone hires her, earns $1 a day. Layhorn is a fourth
child in the family. There are six members in the family. The reason
for her frequently school absence is due to helping her parent to take
care of her youngest brother, transplant rice seeding, harvest rive,
bring water from the well and housekeeping, malaria etc,. Her family
never borrow someone money but just borrow neighbor’s rice about
10KG. And sometime they have to work hard for exchanging some food and
rice.
Problem
she faces: They are living in the poorest condition. Her parents
are educated people but they really want to encourage all their children
to attendant class as other students.
Suggestion:
Her parents agreed to allow their children attend school regularly.
Support:
We pay her parent $10 a month ($120 a year).
