Uy Borey is 15 years old and a six grade student at the 2006-2007 semesters
of the Salakrao Nippon Foundation primary school in Thoul Tor- Toeung
village, Pailin.
Current
situation: Her family’s homeland is in Battambong province,
they moved to live here three year ago. Living on someone’s land;
growing corn on two hectares of land and the output get $160 per year
but they have to pay the debt for about $250. Besides of faming her
father burns wood charcoal for a living, earns $1.20 a day. Her mother
has serious gynecology but sometime she could help her husband to do
something around. There are seven members in the family. She has two
sisters and two brothers. She is the second child in the family. Her
oldest sister is a grade seventh and her two brothers are in the same
school as her. The reason for her frequently school absence is due to
her house is far, some five kilometers from school, requiring more then
one hour’s walking in good weather, but for the rainy season she
could not pass the channel (the water is high during rainy season) because
her house is other side of the small river. Moreover, her parent asks
her to look after animals, clean grass around and take care her youngest
brother. Her father says, however, Bory is intelligent student, she
always get a high grade among 40 students in the class.
Problem
she faces: The family is living in the poorest condition. Her
house is far and requiring to pass the small river. No own land

Her parents have allows her to attend school regularly.
