Girl #68
- Sreynouch

Location of the school: The Honolulu-Pusan-Shimbashi-Taipei
Rotary Clubs School, #207, Borei Kamakor Phoum Pi village, Ka Chang
commune, Banlung district, Ratanakiri province.
Female Student:
Saov Sreynouch is 9 years old and in the second grade at primary
school. She is Cambodian.
Why we are
sponsoring this girl: Sreynouch has one brother and four sisters.
Her father is a farmer. Her mother is a teacher at the local primary
school. Their monthly income is $30, which is not enough to buy adequate
rice and other food for the family. The rice they harvest does not satisfy
their daily needs. Besides, they often borrow money from other villagers
to supplement their farming. After a year, they sometimes do not have
enough money to reimburse the lender. Their house is made of bamboo,
the walls are made of plastic and the roof is made from tree leaves.
Sreynouch was often absent from school. She didn’t have the proper
school materials, she lacked of food and her health was suffering. She
would stay home from school to do housework and help her mother.
Her parents are now very happy that the GBA project is supporting Sreynouch’s
return to school.
Support:
We pay Sreynouch’s family $10 a month for her perfect
attendance at school.
