Profile:
Bun Thim is 10 years old and a first grade student at the 2006-2007
semester of The Tokyo Shintoshin Rotary Club primary school in Dong
village, Reak Reay commune, Roveang district, Preah Vihear province.
Current
situation: Her family’s homeland is in Kompong Thom province,
they moved to live here 10 years ago. Her family is farmer, besides
farming her family doing plantation (six kilometers from house), so
they have to take all small kids along with them. Her father is broken
one of his leg and blind one eye since 10 years ago. But he tries very
hard to help his wife to the filed and look after children at home.
Sometimes, both of her parents have worked for someone hided, earning
$ 3.75 a month and expense 15cents per day for food. But however, there
is not much work to do outside. There are eight members in the family.
She has one sister and four brothers. She is a third child in the family.
Her oldest brother 17years old is grade fifth, he could do something
to exchange the money when free time. And her second sister stopped
study last year to help her parent to harvest rice, earn $1 a day. The
reason for her frequently school absence is due to take care of her
younger siblings, feeding pigs, etc. Her house is very oldest one and
it seems to be collapsed soon. Her parent says, however, Thim is studies
hard student and willing to attend school everyday.
Problem
she faces: Poverty, her parent has no suitable work to do,
a lot of member in the family, and one of her member is disable to work.
Suggestion:
Her parents agreed with me to allow their children to attend school
as schedule provided.
Support:
We pay the parent $10 a month ($120 a year).
