Girl #6 - Rong

Profile: San Chom Rong is eight years old and a first grade student at the 2005-2006 semester of the Lee Rudlin primary school in Pras Sva village, Banteay Chakrey commune, Preh Sdech district, Prey Veng province.

Current situation: Her family’s homeland is in Svey Reing province. They moved to live here eight years ago. Her family is a farmer and worker. She has four sisters and one brother. She is the forth child in the family. There are six members in the family. Two of her siblings live with relatives. Her parents were separated two years ago. Her father ignored them all. Her family doesn’t have land for growing rice and cultivation. Her mother and her oldest sister 17, work for someone else and receive some rice and a little money to survive. Sometime, they have to spend 70cents a day for food. The family is very poor and all children are illiterate.

Problem she faces: The family doesn’t have stable work to do and is living on another land. They have no property. Moreover, her mother doesn’t care about children studies; she only focuses on how to make money.

Suggestion: We should support her, lest she is forced to drop out of school.

Support: We pay the parents $10 a month ($120 a year)
