Girl #50
- Khamy Ping

Sponsor:
The Shana Alexander Foundation
Location of the school: The Ruth G. Kimball School,
Cha-Ung Chan village, Cha-Ung commune, O Chum district, Ratanakiri province
Girl student:
Khamy Ping is one of the poor girl students in the school. She is fifteen
years old and was in the third grade. She came irregularly to school.
Why we are sponsoring the girl: Ping has three sisters
and three brothers. Ping is the second child in the family. She lives
with her father. Her mother was died in 1999 because of her illness.
Her brothers got married. They are farmers and live separately from
Ping. Her sisters did not want to go to school. They help the parents
in the farm. Ping is the only a child in the family who attends school.
In this reason that the family doesn’t see any interest for supporting
Ping to attend school. They don’t understand about EDUCATION.
The father got married with the second wife. She is farmer and has three
children with her first husband. Two sons are farmers. The youngest
goes to school.
The family has not enough rice harvesting and they don’t get enough
food for their need. Their additional food is collecting the forest
vegetable for eating and selling.
Ping doesn’t have time to go to school. She often helps the family
in farming and does housework.
After the meeting Ping suggests her family to return to school. Finally
the family agrees to support her to go back school.
Support: We pay her family $10 a month for perfect attendance.
