Cha-Ung Chan village, Cha-Ung commune, O Chum district, Ratanakiri province
Girl student:
Kalang Chanty is a poor girl student in the school. She is fifteen years
old. She was in the second grade. She irregularly goes to school, 2
or 3 days a week.
Why we are sponsoring the girl: Chanty has three brothers
and two sisters. She is the fifth child in the family. The mother was
divorced with the father. They live separately from each other. The
father has the second wife. Her brothers and sisters live with the father
and his second wife. And Chanty lives with her mother.
The mother of Chanty is worker in the village. She gets 5000Riels (=$1.20)
as her daily income. They are two persons in the small family and don’t
have any idea to find other works In this case that Chanty cannot continue
to study. She must go with her mother to work for the money.
Finally Chanty and the mother understand on the future of Chanty and
agree to send Chanty back to school.
Support: We pay her family $10 a month for perfect
attendance.
