Girl #47 - Mom

Sponsor: The Shana Alexander Foundation

Location of the school: The Ruth G. Kimball School, Cha-Ung Chan village, Cha-Ung commune, O Chum district, Ratanakiri province

Girl student: Tha Mom is thirteen years old and was in the fourth grade. She came to school irregularly one wekk a month. Finally she left school in 2005.

Why we are sponsoring the girl:
At Nhor is her mother. She is 43 years old. She is a farmer and maker the rice wine. Bun Tha is her father. He is 42 years old. He is a farmer. They have a small plot of land for their farming. The family belongs to the Kreung ethnic minority.

The rice harvesting did not respond enough to the family needs. At night her mother has spent time to make cookies for selling in the village. She can earn 3000Riel per day ($0.70). Her father goes fishing near a mountain very far from the house. He catches some small fishes for their daily meal. Because of their poverty Mom and her parents don’t understand well about the interest of the EDUCATION.
After the meeting Mom regrets her missing class in the past. And her parents are very happy to see their daughter returning to school.

Support: We pay her family $10 a month for perfect attendance.
