Girl #394 - Ytha
Sponsor: Team Boravuth
Location of the school: The Ruth G. Kimballb School, #273, Cha Ung
Chan village, Cha Ung commune, O’Chum district, Ratanakiri province.
Girl student: Pim Ytha is six years old and a first grade student at
the primary school. She is the oldest child in the family. Her age fits to the
educational policy to enroll school, but she doesn’t like going to school.
Especially her parents cannot explain her on the interest of the education.
Why we are sponsoring the girl: Ytha has only one sister. Her parents are poor
farmers. They own one hectare of field rice and one hectare of cashew nuts. The
yearly harvest of both rice and cashew nuts is not enough to cover the needs of
the family. Every year the harvest is almost bad, so the family has to work for
other villagers, but working as day laborers they earn very little money. They
mostly help the other families clean the grass or harvest cashew nuts. One person can earn an additional $2.50 a day
for doing jobs in the village. However, the demand doe day labor is very
irregular. Thus the family sometimes cannot affort to buy the rice, clothes,
meals, etc they need to survive.
Ytha
lives in difficult situation with her poor family, so she dropped out school
since mid-october 2008 after she came to school only ten days.
Afterthe meeting on GBA program, the parents of Ytha agree that her daughter must go
back to school with perfect attendance. Her parents are also happy to get this
opportunity for Ytha.
Support: We pay $10 to the girl’s family for her perfect
attendance.
