Girl #33
- Sokhim

Sponsor:
The Overlake School, Seattle
Profile:
Nhim Sokhim is 13 years old and a fourth grade student at the
2006-2007 semesters of the Overlake primary school in Tuol Sro-lao village,
Pailin.
Current
situation: Her family’s homeland is in Battambang province.
They came to live many years ago, living on someone’s land and
keeping their trees up. Her father does nothing (his seems does not
care about family). Her mother is feeling trembling and has problem
with intestine/stomachache. Besides of core work, they have feeding
chicken for extra income. She has two brothers; she is the youngest
child in the family. Her oldest brother is staying at Children Border
Center for the past seven years. Now he is a nine grade student at the
2006-2007 semesters. Her second brother is forced to drop school since
two grades because he did some mistake in the school. The reason she
frequently school absence due to her mother ask her to take care her
when she sick and fishing for food. Her parents are in debt for about
$250. Nevertheless, she is a hard study girl and always gets a high
grade in the class.
Problem
she faces: The family is very poor. They don’t have stable
work to do. They don’t have own land. Her mother is always sickness.
Suggestion:
She would like to ask any support to the family. And if money is provided,
it should be direct to her mother because we don’t truth her father,
he will force to drink alcohol or smoking etc. I would suggest to the
school vice principal to accept her second brother to attend school
again.
Support:
we pay her mother $10 a month ($120 a year)
