Girl # 30- Dem

Location of the school: The Ascham School #262, Pou Taing village, Rumnea commune, Sen Monorom district, Mondulkiri province.
Girl student: Nhol Dem is ten years old and a first grade student in the primary school. She is fourth child in the family. She comes to school late and doesn’t want to continue studying.
Why we are sponsoring the girl: Dem has three brothers and one sister. Her four siblings are students at the primary school. Her parents are farmers. They have only one hectare of cashew nuts mixed with different kinds of vegetables. The yearly income is very low, $10 because the cashew nuts don’t give good harvest. They sell vegetable that they collect from both the farm and the forest. Everyday they buy rice two kilograms for eating. They eat with salt and vegetable. The family is extremely poor.
During the interview Dem cried. Her parents were very sad in answering to my questions. After the meeting Dem promises that she will take all her time for going to school.
In 2010 Nhol Dem is twelve years old. She is studying at the 3rd grade at the primary school. Her study result is average. Now she starts to work hard at school.
